The positives effects of a pain education program on patients with chronic pain: observational study

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Pain education is a tool that helps health professionals in the biopsychosocial approach and pain management patients with musculoskeletal pain. The objectives of study were to verify effects program chronic evaluated outcomes pain, kinesiophobia, catastrophizing, quality life, central sensitization perception disease. METHODS: Observational, retrospective study. Data from 24 participants mean age 57 years, analyzed, 83% whom female. Patients participated program, which addressed topics such as acceptance, alarm, sleep, relaxation, negative thoughts, return activities, relationships, exercises. RESULTS: Participants showed significant changes cognitive representation disease measured by Illness Perception Questionnaire (Brief-IPQ) (p<0.01), CSI (p=0.05), catastrophism (p<0.05), physical aspects Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) (p<0.05) total score same Instrument (p<0.05).
